Information on Seattle Washington PLEASE!?

Im from Mississippi, i’m a southern girl. I have never lived up north! I have lived in the south my entire life. My step dad is in the army and is getting moved to fort lewis which is about 30 minutes from seattle i think? Im going to be a sophomore in high school any ideas wear i might be going to school at? I guess i have somewhat of a country accent, are people going to think i am weird because of that? Whats the style like up there? Please say people wear CHACOS! those are my favorite shows ever! i like the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, hiking. I have never been in snow before, does it snow there?

Thanks

It hardly ever snows. Fort Lewis is awesome in the summer. Sucks in the fall and winter. Rains everyday. U would prolly go to either puyallup or Lakewood school. Every one from Seattle to Olympia are tree hugging hippies.

Hard to say which school you’ll be going to until you find out exactly where you will live. People won’t necessarily think you are weird because of your accent, but it may give people the impression that you are not very well educated. It won’t help that you might be a little behind in school because the schools are generally rated better in Washington than they are in Mississippi.

People who are long time residents of the area tend to wear casual, comfortable clothes. It rains a lot and the weather changes often so most people dress in layers like a t-shirt underneath, then a hoodie sweatshirt and then a polar fleece vest or jacket and then a rain jacket. You will probably want to put away the Chacos from about October until June if you don’t want your feet to be wet and cold all of the time. Here’s a little trivia quiz that you might enjoy that has a lot of information about Seattle: http://www.squidoo.com/quiz-how-much-do-you-know-about-seattle-

It doesn’t snow very often – just a few times a year for a few days, but the mountains are only an hour away where you can ski, snowshoe, go tubing or snowboarding in the winter. There are a lot of opportunities to have fun in the outdoors and lots of beautiful places to see, so most people in the area enjoy outdoor activities, in addition to winter snow sports lots of people enjoy hiking, camping boating, river rafting, sailing, fishing and watching wildlife. Some examples of some great opportunties to see and enjoy the wildlife are to take a trip to see orca whales in the San Juan Islands in the summer http://www.squidoo.com/San_Juan_Island or go to see the bald eagles in the winter: http://www.squidoo.com/bald-eagle or go to the Ballard Locks in Seattle to watch the salmon move up the fish ladder to reach the place of their birth to spawn: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-ballard-locks

There are some hunters, but a lot fewer than what you see in Mississippi. There are a lot more people in Washington who view hunting as cruel and inhumane.

If you can, I would look at this move as an adventure and take advantage of any opportunity to see and do as many things that are unique to the area as you possibly can. Seeing new places can be so much fun. Some places you might want to try to see include some of the sights of Seattle like the Pike Place Market: http://www.squidoo.com/Seattle-Pike-Place-Market and the Space Needle: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-space-needle

Mt St Helens: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/mshnvm/ Olympic National Park http://www.nps.gov/olym/index.htm and a trip or two to the east side of the Cascade Mountains – it is totally a different climate and most parts are very rural – here’s an example of one of the great state parks on the east side of the state: http://www.parks.wa.gov/parks/?selectedpark=Sun%20Lakes
