Is it safe to travel to Mexico?

I am a US citizen looking for a vacation. If we chose an upscale place and stayed at the resort or with hotel staff, say on a guided trip, would it be okay? No smart @ss answers, please. I had a friend that just went but they aren’t from the US, so I’m just not sure. We are in our late 20′s and early 30′s – guy and girl. Thanks!
I’ve been to Mexico twice before. This question relates to the current events.

Its ok if your not driving to mexico but if you do drive just make sure you do not take a nice car or they will take it. Im not saying its bad. I just came from there about 5 months ago and we drove and that was a really uncomftrable and was not worth it.

You will be absolutely fine. Going to a resort area is safer than being in some American cities. Go and have a gret time.

I live in Mexico. It seems to be more dangerous here every day. I don’t recommend coming to Mexico to anyone. If you want a foreign vacation you can go to many places that are just as cheap and much less dangerous.

If what you are talking about is the drug cattail violence, coming to the Riviera Maya Zone you will be free from the violence from the north and west of Mexico. These cartels are fighting each other and the police and the military. Thanks to the CIA the cartels are well equip with guns supplied by the US. Millions pass through the Cancun airport and return home safe and sound. Tourists are more likely to have a water accident, be involved in a car accident, than to be involved with violence from the cartels. Watch what you do, where you go, and not go looking for illegal drugs or other activities you will be safe. It does not matter that your friends were not from the US and you are not, your trip will be fine. Many tourists find there resorts so comfortable that they never leave, or if they do it is with a group to the many tourist attractions.

Playa Del Carmen. Fly into Cancun, Playa is 40 south of Cancun (Mayan for snake nest). If you are going with a few couples rent a house in the Playacar neighborhood. I felt safer in Playa then in most big US cities. My brother (39) and I (33) wondered all over the place day and night. My family dropped the shopping for Xmas and we now travel. We have been there twice now, the first time we stayed at Caracol just 5min outside of Playa. You don`t feel like you are in a box hotel there. You can rent a car for a day and go see ruins in Coba or snorkel with sea turtles and rays 20 miles south of Playa at Akmaul. The only thing you have to worry about is people trying to sell you things. In fact the locals are treated by the police like if Americans were teasing Amish people. The tourist can get away with allot more then the locals. They even have a Wal-Mart there if it makes you feel safer lol. Cab rids are safe and handy. Don`t accept ripped bills which are outlawed there. Min, wage is $4day and Spanish owned resorts pay the workers the least.

Yes, it’s safe if you travel to the beach. Cancun, Vallarta, Los Cabos
Monterrey, Chihuahua, Coahuila are dangerous states today.
    I live in Monterrey.

Many Females have met their fate in Mexico. The police picked up a couple on NEW YEARS EVE of all times in Playa del Carmen. She was robbed raped and beaten Her name is Rebbecca Rutland from Orangeville Ontario. They were , for some reason held for 18 hours when it only take 4 to sober upi There is a person in Playa del Carmen says they are now facing charges ,NONSENSE. They are suing and have hired a Mexican Lawyer. OMG how ridiculous to say the Cops have charged them. What an embarrassment. If they were going to Charge them , they would be in a Mexican Jail as you read this email.
They were released without incident and left Cancun 10 days Later.
Out of respect for the Victims
Here is a short list of Victims http://mexicovacationawareness.com/news.html See the video in the Source Bar it takes a minute to buffer. I see updates here twice a Month and She hasn’t`t been Charged with anything.
I am Not telling you to Stay home, But you should Make an informed decision. Most of the Victims are just victims of fate..and routine violence. There is a reason for the 15 Billion tons of Steel Bars on the doors and windows in Mexico
MG It takes a certain individual to rip a Man`s Face off along with his Scalp and Stitch it to a Soccer ball and then place it at the Tumba of Aurturo Beltran Leyva .
We are talking about 200 Hannibal Lectors running around Mexico. Enough is Enough.
The poster Clontarf lives there, you may want to listen to him and his truthful and unbiased answer. He has nothing to lose or gain and is giving you his opinion that I could not agree more with. These thing don`t happen in the Caribbean anywhere close to this Magnitude. Pis paranoid…….I would`nt waste 1 minute of time on y

Oh! last but Not least check out this Link and this happened right on the Hotel Zone In Cancun. I know several foreigners that live in Mexico and they are all functionally illiterate. They get ONE small newspaper in English and have no real idea what is going and they live there 24/7 365 Some are Computer literate and get a vast amount of information but. If you spend any amount of time in a Zocalo you would soon find out what I mean. The Cops were fired!! Now what are they going to do and they are all trained in weaponry OMG Sounds like a great place to rent a Car!!

I don`t remember the last time Americans were Victims if any in Canada if I don`t think any Americans have been intentionally killed here and if one or two have been it was Drug related. Mexico Safe lol lol
I can`t guarantee your safety of course. What I can tell you is there will be 400 tourists killed in the next year or so, I don`t want to be one of them.
