Is tick prevention necessary?

I’m leaving to go camping in two weeks (In northern Utah/southern Wyoming) with my 9 month old Border Collie and I want to know if a tick/misquito preventitive is absolutley necessary. I’ve heard that Advantix is a really good option, but I can’t afford it at the moment. (Go figure since I feed Innova) Is there any good alternatives? I really don’t want to have to look for/remove ticks from my dog.

YES! Ticks can carry nasty diseases.
Yes, I just got back from the vet with my dog and found out she has lyme disease with kidney failure. She might die. I’m sure you probably don’t want to have to go through that, it sucks.
Yes, if you are in a tick area especially on a dog with a full coat where ticks are not easily seen. You can purchase 1 dose which will be under $20. Ticks will still get on dog but then die from contact. Nothing repels ticks completely.
Sure is, unless you want your dog to pick up a little bloodsucker that can give him Lyme disease, rocky mountain spotted fever, etc.
Come on, Advantix is not all that expensive, and it works. Keeps your dog flea and tick free, plus it repels mosquitos — all necessary prevention.
Note: Keely — Frontline does NOT prevent ticks, only fleas – you need to use Frontline PLUS to prevent fleas and ticks.
Yes, ticks can carry diseases such as lyme disease, and ticks can jump from dog to person. If I’m correct lyme disease is/can be fatal. Hope my advice helps! Advantix by the way is a good preventitive, however, we use Frontline on our dogs
tick prevention is ABSOLUTELY necessary!! it reallyydoesn’tt matter where you go, you dog can get ticks. i live no where near a woods or heavly wooded area and my dog got a tick from walking through a bush. ticks are extremely dangerous to dogs and can cause major issues in the joints of the dog. ( my uncle dog got lymedisease ) and yes Advantix is a good option and i understand is pricey. the product my whole family uses is Frontline Plus. Its never to expensive and it works well for my dog and my aunts dogs.
yes, totally necessary
Yes.
Ticks aren’t that common in Utah.
But they do exist, mostly in the higher elevations.
I’ve never actually seen a tick in the 25+ years I’ve lived in Utah, but I do know of people who have camped in the “high country” who have encountered them.
My camp spots have been safe.
But still..better safe than sorry, right??
