I’ve been in 4 shows plus acting camps . . . can i go more pro?

I’ve been in 4 shows plus acting camps (12 years old, a little on the short side) and all of them were from being in plays at the Children’s theatre (which is a lot of fun!) but I want to try something more professional, like Ford’s theatre, or Signature theatre, or something like that (Washington DC area). I want to find a talent agent soon but i’m not sure if i’m ready.
Am i ready to try something more professional and have a good chance of getting in?
or
Am i even ready to look for a talent agent?
I once had the lead role in a play (so i can handle parts with lots of lines.)
what do u think? i appreciate all answers
thx!!

You lose nothing to audition. As a matter of fact, if you’ve never been to auditions like the theatres you’ve mentioned, you might do well for the experience. The worst they say is “Thank You” and then nothing else.

As for the agent part, well that’s up to you and your folks.

If you’re willing to learn from the experience, I urge everyone to audition as much as possible. It’s a great way to meet people, find out what other projects might be going on, and to (maybe) look at other auditions and get some ideas. Just remember, professionals hear “no” a lot more than “yes” so don’t sweat it.

I would reccommend building up your experience now and worrying about professional stuff later. Learn from your experiences, and then when you’re looking for talent agents, you’ll have a lot more luck finding one who be willing to work with you.

Audition, audition, audition. It’s the only way you’ll gain experience. Some places require a resume and headshot, so if you’re TRULY serious, headshots are definitely something to invest in.
Never get discouraged when casting directors turn you away. It doesn’t mean you’re untalented, it just means you’re not what they’re looking for at the time. And if you are constantly courteous and friendly with the people you work with, word will travel.

All in all, you really have to think about what you mean by “pro”. Do you want to be in some plays at the Ford’s theatre, or do you want to move on to film, commercials, etc. If it’s the latter, you really need to think about it. Are you willing to give up your childhood (I hate to say it like that) for the screen? Acting is a job. If you’re in regular films, you can no longer go to a regular school; you’ll need a tutor to work with you between scenes. You wont see a lot of your friends during shooting. You must consider, is acting important enough to you?

And if the answers no, that’s perfectly fine! You have every right to want to be a kid! And at this age, kids are always changing their minds. You don’t know what you’ll want next month. You don’t want to go through all this trouble just to drop out when you get bored.

You don’t seem like that kind of kid, but I’ll say it again; you MUST think through this.
    Good luck!

look around you for community thearers, their open calls and will give you experience in a more
professional setting, than childrens theater. if you have talent and ability and know how to get through an audition, you should be able to find an agent if your in the right place. for anything of a
professional nature you will probably have to get to NYC. for an agent to be of any use to you,
you will need to be within at least an hour and a half of where the auditions are and also
your agent. you will need to audition to get an agent. you will need a parent to commit to doing this with you and support your per suit of acting to do this.
