Job as a summer camp counselor in 2011 for a 16 year old in Wisconsin or Illinois?
I’m 16 and live in Illinois and want a job as a summer camp counselor it could be in Illinois or Wisconsin. Are there any camps that hire and pay 16 year olds? I want it to be co-ed and an overnight camp. Thanks and please leave links!
While I’m not going to rule out that some camps in your area may seek staff members that young, by my experience, camps do not hire counselors that young, mostly because you are still old enough to camp!

From what I can see, these are your options:
1.) If you’re old enough to work, go ahead and apply!
2.) If you’re too young to work but old enough to camp, camp there for a week. See what the staff and campers are really like, and have a great time!
3.) If you’re not old enough to be a counselor, but they still hire kids your age, look for a CIT or JC program, where you can be payed, but you just won’t be a counselor.
4.) If you’re too old to camp but too young to work, Wait another year or two. Age really comes into consideration here, unfortunately.
