It will depend on what kind of job he does. Some kinds of work aren’t needed as critically in Iraq or Afghanistan as others.

He’ll know soon, though. One way or the other he’ll have orders in the next couple of weeks.

Good luck to you and God bless your son and his compatriots.

Answer: Just a little ground pounding training…his MOS will guide the next assignment…Expect further training.
We thank the young man for his service…God bless him and his family.

he will go to his MOS school once he finishes training there he will be asigned to a unit in the Fleet MArine Force.

His deployment orders will be what ever the deployment orders are for that unit

They dont deploy people on an individual basis. Just becuase he is fresh out of school they wont say “hey you havent been go over there” He will deploy with the unit he is asigned to. Meaning if they just go back from being over there he has a while but if they are waiting to deploy he will go with them.

There are a few cases where a special MOS is in need over there and they might give a person orders for temorary assingment to another unit but its not likley.

Dont worry Marine Mom. Your Devil Dog Isnt going into the sandbox yet. He will be properly trained first and sent to a duty station for more training before orders. He is in good hands mom. My mom worried about me and that was back when Vietnam was on. As a matter of fact….she still worries about me and Im in my 50s. A Sharp Hand Salute to the Marine Moms from this Marine. GOD BLESS!

Depends on his MOS. There are 3 Camps and 1 Air Station in Jacksonville. Marine Corps Air Station New River, Camp Geiger, Camp Johnson and Camp Lejeune. He will do his MOS training at one of them and perhaps more advanced training after that. He will then be sent to his permanent unit. There will be more training until such a time as they might deploy. Semper Fi.

God bless him. What happens depends on the MOS he has.

depends on what his MOS is and what unit he gets assigned to. he’ll ship if his unit ships.

Hey there! I’m the sis of a former Marine(1/6–OORAH!) and there is a great site for parents of marines, whether they are in boot, on a base or deployed, in fact I’m a member myself…its http://www.marineparents.com. They have info on everything you need to know and if you need to talk to other marine parents to share how your feeling or ask a question, they have live chat and forums to help out. God bless you and your son and hang in there ok? Semper Fi!

    Hi there!

If he’s going to combat training for 22 days, that tells me he’s in a non-infantry MOS… and will leave directly from combat training to go to school to learn his job. How long the school is will depend on what his job will be. If his job requires just a little technical knowledge, he may be through school in a couple weeks… On the other hand, if he’s going to be a helicopter mechanic, he’ll probably be in school over a year.

Once he’s done with his schooling, he’ll be given orders to report to his Permanent Duty Station, or PDS. Whether or not he deploys will depend on his assigned unit’s deployment schedule…
