My army husband is going to Korea and I’m not! Help!?!?

My husband is going to Camp Humphreys Korea in April and we’ve decided to do an unaccompanied tour. Me and our 3 children are going to live with my parents in Virginia. I need any information about the specifics of staying behind such as BAH, storing furniture, leave, changing my homestead, and if the army will pay to move me and the kids. Please help me out, any information is welcome! Thanks so much!

The Army will not pay to move you and your kids back to your parents home just because he is going on an unaccompanied tour. Would be the same situation as with deployment.

Ok, your husband’s current PSD or Personnel Service Department will be able to more accurately answer these questions. He will get BAH for the zip code of where his dependents (you and your kids) live. I’ve never heard of them paying for any type of storage for any reason, but changing the address is something as simple as updating his page 2 or his Dependent Data Form in his record.

The Army “should” pay to move you and the kids. Again, you will need to check with the PSD.

I am in the Navy so I’m not too informed on Army PSD and what the Army offers, but I would imagine it wouldn’t be too different from the Navy. Good luck. Take care and God bless. I will be praying for him while he deploys.

FYI, delete this question soon. The DoD frowns upon members of the Armed Forces and/or their dependents posting information about troop deployments and locations on the web. Anyone can look at this question and can see that there is an army unit deploying to Korea in April and they can take that, run with it, and it could endanger the deploying unit.

Doesn’t he have his stateside assignment upon return stateside?!
YOU and your children can go there and set-up household!

Unfortunately, the Army won’t pay for the move part of your question, but your husband will receive BAH as long as he tells them what city and state you are staying in. BAH is different for every area. And it depends on his rank as does everything. LOL. And you will also still be covered under tricare so you wont have to find insurance and stuff like that. Hope I helped. If you need someone to talk to or if you have any more questions, feel free to email me at baby_gurl82787@yahoo.com. Best wishes.

    P.S.
Make sure you have Power of Attorney before he leaves. You cannot be too careful. Just in case anything is in just his name you will need a power of attorney.

Why don’t you stay AT HOME…that’s where you and your family live. I bet your parents are over joyed at having 4 people move into their home.
I was deployed for 2 times at 12 months, once at 13 months, and twice at 6 months. My wife was where I left her when I came back. At OUR HOME.
If you move, it will be out of your pocket, as well as the storage of your belongings (I take it they won’t fit in dad’s garage).
Then when hubby comes back and you have to move to another base, well guess who has to pay to move your stuff.
Not the best decision on your part.
