seriously! it’s pretty terrible. i read about them in the new york times. they resemble concentration camps, and even women and children are held there. it’s beyond horrific.

Yeah I knew that
That what we need here…and i’m NOT kidding on this!
NOT AMERICAN THEN GTFO!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: To the TDs…you mad?
guessing htey dontfill the need to feddd cloth and raise ppl who odnt belong ther like us ! but to tell u the truth i think we should send them back wer they came if they came with out the prper papers
if the usa want to be nice
take care of ur own poor and educate our childer
Now I know not to try and sneak in. My plans are ruined…
They are provided with food and shelter. If they don`t wish to be in a detention centre, they shouldn`t come here illegally.
They’re not “illegal immigrants” they’re presummed “refugees”.
These “detention centres” aren’t even on Australian soil – it’s Malaysian as per Gillard Government policy. These centres process these “presummed refugees”. If these refugees are “genuine” refugees, Australia will accept them as legal residents. Those who are not genuine refugees get sent back to their countries.
People enter the country illegally, by-passing the people who applied properly, What you think that we just open all the doors:( They are treated fairly, they might be criminals fleeing the law and no passport=a new life, i think not, they have Access to our legal system, they have computers supplied by us) Spare Me with the cruel detention story. Signed Brendan is an Australian
It’s actually a really complicated issue.
Just to clarify, in this context “illegal immigrants” mean refugees. They are processed offshore and those deemed to be legitimate refugees will be allowed in. But the majority are not people who just come here…they are people who *flee* here because they are desperate enough to get on little wooden boats and sail across half the world with no guarantee of survival. Did you know that by the time boats reach Australia, a lot of the “boat people” as they are called have actually drowned?
On the one hand, we can’t just take people in, but on the other it’s a massive humanitarian crisis that no one seems to have the answer to.
Both Gillard and Abbot are kidding themselves if they think they can “stop the boats” as they constantly promise. The boats are the consequence of conflict which Australia is directly involved in!! So unless Gillard and Abbot plan on single handedly stopping the war in Afghanistan [for example] then I really don’t think they’ll be stopping the boats any time soon.
btw I’m not answering because you sometimes give me best answer…I’m answering because I actually have something to say on the matter!!
I sometimes think that contacts might think that I have some hidden agenda or that I’m stalking them lol.
Actually, just another point of interest…according to the 1951 Refugee Convention and Australia’s 1958 Migration Act [unless I'm very much mistaken] it is not actually “illegal” to seek asylum in Australia without a valid visa…
yes.its a good way to detain them.
