Seems that you took good care. That will not be the problem. The question is, a Ford can make a 5000 miles trip without breaking? That is a Ford quality issue not maintenance. Beside, changing Synthetic oil at 4500 is a waste of money. That oil should last at least 10,000 I change mine every 10,000 miles and never blown an engine and they looks the same as any other car with good maintenance. See how much your camping gear weights and your buddies. Look on the door and the owner’s manual and see what is the weights limitations. Do not over load your car, handling and perhaps other mechanical problems will arise. Also consider towing a small luggage trailer instead loading the car at full capacity. Share the weight! Beside towing and carrying have to be properly calculated. Again the Owner’s Manual has all the necessary info.

But of course, my car is a Chevy ;-)

As long as the fluid levels are at the normal range, you should not have to worry at all. I would check levels after going through the mountains or desert. That car should be able to give you at least 100,000 miles of service. By-the-way, the Mobile1 oil will go 10,000 to
15,000miles between changes. The oil does not turn acid as natural oils do and that is the main reason for frequent oil changes. I use Mobile 1 all the time for the last 20 years and my cars get an easy 250,000 miles.
