Why does everyone act like I am a pedophile since I am 19 and my girlfriend is 16?
Everyone I tell acts like I am a flipping pedophile (I am 19 and 5 months…shes 16 and 1 month) and its annoying as hell. NO ONE questions when a 27 and 24 year old get married, hell my grandparents have a 22 year age difference and even they act like its weird! We are both virgins so I’m not using her for sex, and I’m a nice guy! But between her parents, my family, and everyone else they all act like I am going to jail for being with her. Yeah we might have sex someday if we WANT to but I would NEVER in my wildest dreams pressure her to do something she doesn’t want to (the age of consent in Iowa is 16 btw so she’s legal if that were to arise). Women also mature 2-3 years faster than guys so we’re on the same level there too. I mean yeah it seems a bit odd once I leave for boot camp to say my gf is in high school, but come on, it’s no big deal when you are older so why is it now?

it just seems weird, personally if she was 17 i would be ok with it but JUST turning 16 seems weird. She is still in hs and you are out, i hope. Are you in college? Find a girl there. I think it’s great that you guys are both virgins, but just remember no matter what the age of consent is, if you have sex w/ someone under 18 they can still put you in jail for having sex w/ a minor.
well to answer your question, because when we are younger, there is a bigger difference between the ages. children change very rapidly, adults pretty much stay the same. thats what the difference is. yes I know we arent talking about toddlers here, but the point remains the same. as teenagers and even young adults our brains are still devoloping believe it or not. we undergo SO much changing in just those few short years. we are not the same people at 16 that we are at 19. not at all.
but hey.. you can show em all wrong. just because we are still changing, maturing and developing doesnt mean we cant do so within a relationship if we really put our minds to it (provided its legal). it wont be easy, and it wont likely work out.. but it IS still possible. people thinking negatively of you is pretty unavoidable, and the only way you can prove them wrong is with time, should you choose to do so.
Ignore it! When I was 16 I dated a guy who was 20….to be honest it depends on the maturity of the girl. And I look older than I am so it wasn’t that weird too…anyways if you guys really care about eachother then ignore everyone else.
