I just bought an 88 viking pop up camper here in Michigan, and was wondering, do i need to insure it? is it a law? or just a recommendation? im hearing many things when i ask that question and i really need a for sure thing here. i dont want to get pulled over and get ticketed for having no insurance on it. but i also dont want to pay 300 dollars a month for something i bought for $450. Thanks!

You don’t need to insure it for liability, since it “becomes” a part of the car when you hook it on. If you want comp/collision on it, though, you need to add that to your policy, but since it’s 22 years old, it’s iffy whether it’s worth the premium–depending on its value. Your agent can help you there.
You do not need insurance on it. The liability from your insured tow car will extend to the camper. You can buy collision and/or comprehensive for it but for a $450. investment it would be foolish.
I had a Viking camper once….. :<(
