Do visiting Aussies have to pay tax on a private party purchase of rv in Calofornia to tour the country.?

We are staying with family in California but are only using this as a base to find our rv and start our adventure. We will spend the majority of our 12 month trip out of Ca and would like to find out wether we have to pay the state taxes as non-residents spending the majority of our trip interstate?
Thanks.

  1. Arthur R says:

When you purchase this RV, you must register it in order to get a license plate. At this time sales tax will be collected by what ever state the RV is to be registered in.

It seems as if California has some strange laws, as seen in the above links. I would seek proffesional help on this one. Any opinion you get on Yahoo is not necessarlly the correct one.

I’m not sure if the cost would pan out, but you could rent an RV
