Hi I was wondering, if using a tow bar, to tow a truck behind RV do you have to take out the driveline?

It depends on the truck. The primary issue is lubrication. Automatic transmissions are lubricated by a pump from the engine side so if the engine is not running there is no pump and therefore no lubrication. Even in neutral some of the gears and such are going to be turning. Some of the newer manuals are the same way. 4×4 transfer cases vary in design. The older ones have a neutral position that would then eliminate the issue with the transmission. The transfer case itself may or may not have a lubrication issue. Some are splash oiled some have pumps. I would check out some of the RV sites in the past I have seen lists of cars that could be easily towed.

usually safe to hook up n go it its a stick/manual 2 wd truck [make sure rear axel fluid is topped off/full

auto trannys and 4×4 are hard to say,,,so many differnt ones…. go to your owners manual or talk to dealer…don’t ;et them just blow you off with a wave of the hand… u could try some RV dealers who deal with it a lot
