I am currently replacing the walls of my shower at home.I am using concrete backer board which is water proof and will not rot. It’s heavy and a little more money but I wont have to fix it again.Im also going to caulk the seams instead of using mud.(got that tip from a pro).

Best thing is 1/8″ plywood. You can glue a waterproof board make of plastic to that then cut to fit.Total thickness will be about 1/4″. You can get both at Home depot or lowes. They should also have the molding to marry the seams together. If the manufacturer used 1/8″ plywood with waterproof finish try just the plastic board.
