What kind of deal to RV’s have with Walmart for overnight parking?

I travel often, and see RV’s parked overnight in Wal-Mart parking lots all over the US. Does Wal-Mart grant them special permission? Do you have to ask the store?

its the big lighted up area and the cameras….some cities you would need this to sleep in a camper overnight. Beside you can go whenever you want shopping and snacking
Here in alaska, Wal-mart doesnt let rv’s park overnight but I dont know about other states.
no, you just pull up and camp out. that way when you need breakfast or lighter fluid or whatever, you can go throw your money at Wal-Mart
When I worked at two different Wal-marts in IL and our unofficial policy was that we would allow RVs to park for a few days. If you overstayed your welcome (depends on the store management) you were asked to leave. But, the only time I saw that happen was when someone decided to live in their car in the parking lot.
It is an open invitation from WalMart to all RV owners. A national RV Campground owners association attempted to lobby to get Walmart to stop allowing RVers to park overnight on their premises but Walmart policy is to continue allowing it, if you stop in and tell the manager on duty that you will be parking for the night. It’s just good business for Walmart, knowing that the RVers will probably shop while they are there, and they are only using extra space. Many cross country travelers drive all nite and do not wish to pay a campground fee just to crawl into bed sleep and continue onward the next morning. Trust me, I am an RV dealer, and that is all you need do.
Of course there are no ‘hookups’ (sewer connections/elec/etc..) but yes, Walmart allows RVers to park for free overnight in their parking lots. You do not need permission-Walmart knows that most RVers will come in for supplies while parked in the lot. It seems to work well for both parties.
