I am 18 and did not attend the happy hour with the professor for what he announced before the close of class would be “Intro to Global Studies Social Hour” Because it was a bar, I am not permitted at 18 to be there and would not be comfortable. The professor gave students extensions, but is not considering me in the same light because I have missed three days. On Thursday July 26, there was a storm and the power was out and there was not a way to get the car out of the garage. July 31st I was sick. On August 1st, the bridge in Minneapolis collapsed and my cousins were missing. We heard on the night of August 2nd that they were okay and since they were camping they did not hear about the bridge collapse until Thursday. I feel my not attending “social hour” should not be used against me. The instructor required all students in his course to complete a form that elicits protected categories of discrimination, like age, and the instructor should have known “social hour” is not okay
What are the attendance laws applicable to Minnesota colleges? What is the recourse in severe situations?
The illness to which I suffered is categorized under Other Health Disability. I was also sick from the OHDs during the power outage which was obviously not that helpful. To be specific on the OHDs, they fall under Respiratory Disorder:asthma, Neurobiological: severe anxiety and panic disorder (symptoms: Panic-shortness of breath, choking or smothering sensation, sweating, hypotention, dizziness, chest pain or pressure, palpitations, chills or hot flashes, nausia, agitation, poor motor coordination, involuntary movements, entire body trembling, facial expression of terror, feeling of loosing control, fear of dying, inability to relax, difficulty falling asleep, tense muscles, restlessness, exaggerated startle response.
I am trying treatments to determine if I have ADHD or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which the doctor says is an immune deficiency. I agree that yes there has to be accountability; however, considering I do have medical reasons to justify my absences, it makes me think that the instructor is not compassionate
