My husband and I love APBT and other pit bull type breeds. We love their temperament (loyal, smart, adventurous, etc.) and their coats are easy to take care of! Unfortunately, we are about to move into an apartment that doesn’t allow pit bulls or any dogs over 25 lbs. Does anyone know of a smaller, yet similar breed?

We don’t really want a small, yappy dog. We want a dog that we can take hiking or camping! I was thinking that a beagle might be a good match, but I’m not sure.

Please give us some helpful advice and do no post if you aren’t an APBT fan and just have something hateful to say.
I do agree that I was wrong to say yappy as any good owner should train their dog well.

On another note, Jessica, I am going to adopt a dog, but I was simply wondering if there were certain breeds that I should look out for. I don’t like buying from breeders, but there’s no harm in seeking out a certain breed when looking for a pet. So, calm down.

Raising future guide dogs is tough love for Dallas-area families Getting stopped by total strangers is a typical part of Shari Nederhoff’s day. They don’t want to chat; instead, they usually lean over and start scratching behind the ears of Neutron – the Labrador Nederhoff brings with her everywhere she goes. They say things like, “What a cute dog!,” and, “What you’re doing is so valuable,” and, “I don’t know how you do it.” Read more on Dallas Morning News

I took my dog camping and she ended up getting a tick on her eye lash line(right, right, right below her eye). We used tweezers to get it out but the body broke off with the head still attached. Now I need to know what could happen to her. I rather not to take her to the vet unless I have too. Will the dogs body absorb the head? will it come out on its own? What should I do? I love the dog very much so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

We are avid tent campers. This is the first year we’ve had dogs. One dog, the Chi, simply cannot handle being out of her element (fear aggression and non-stop barking), so I’m afraid she’ll have to have a sitter. Our other dog, however, the JRT will simply love it – so much to explore and learn.

Having never taken the dog(s) camping – what should I plan to buy or have on hand? We will be in the mountains at about 5000ft. and also on a few beach trips. The dog(s) are both crate trained, so that won’t be an issue. But what else? Tie-outs? Special vaccinations/preventatives? Will the dog draw bears or prevent them?

Helpful advice appreciated especially that of experienced campers.
We will be sure to go to take the dog(s) near the river to potty. No worries there… no animals to consider at the beach, just worried about confinement and/or security.
We camp in the same campground and same spot every year. We have brown bears here in California, but we aren’t camping at the top near the dump where there’s easy pickin’s for the bears… we camp down on the river. Fishing… loads of fishing. And no worries about the JRT bolting – she adores me and won’t let me out of her sight.

We never did growing up because it wasn’t prevalent here and never had a problem. We camp and hike a lot, with an annual summer trip to Oregon and Washington for two weeks. I have NEVER had a dog with heartworm and my vet doesn’t like to give preventative unless it’s absolutely necessary. I never used to worry about it, but our friend’s Cane Corso was recently diagnosed with it. The dog is four years old and has always lived in Southern California. They travel for two months every summer to Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Washington with the dogs so the vet thinks it’s likely that is where the dog picked it up. Now, I’m paranoid. Do you use heartworm preventative if you live in Southern California? I don’t even Frontline my dogs because they react so badly to that but we don’t have a problem because we have an natural spray that works really well if applied once a week and I’m pretty anal about their baths and cleaning their bedding. I would hate to do this if it was unnecessary but I also can’t imagine that my youngest would live through heartworm treatment. I need advice. Thanks!

My mother in law was kicked out of her mobile home (owned by dtr and son-in-law) and now resorted to living in their non-functional RV. She is having a heck of a time finding an interim place to rent until she figures out what she will do. She has two large dogs 65-75lbs and only about a 1k budget to work with for rent. Placer County, California. Her dogs are part of her family so please don’t suggest she gets rid of the dogs. Places I find only take pets to like 25lbs! RIDICULOUS ~ my GSD weighs 110lbs ~ thank God I don’t have to find a place!

A few nights ago my dog vomited a few times, then in the morning work up swollen around her eyes then started getting hives. Took her to the vet and they gave her a shot of cortizone and Prednisone and benydrl..a few hours later she was fine, but sleepy. Then after taking her doses of prescribed benadryl and prednisone about 2 days later she started having strange muscle spasms on the top of her head where the main muscles are by the ears. She seemed to be in pain each time and would cry and act very out of it. After it was over with she would act very out of it too for a little bit, then would just be sleepy the rest of the evening. This is the third time this has happened and each time it seems to be getting longer. It doesnt happen one after another. First time was in the middle of the night, then earlier today, then just this evening.. I took her to the vet today and he basically said he was stumped, and didnt know what it was. (great huh)…so I am wondering if this could be from the prednisone, or if it is a seziure? We are going to ween her off the prednisone but she still will need to take 2 more pills to be done. I am worried that if it is the meds then it will get worse if I keep giving it to her but I know I have to ween her off.

Please help!!!

The only thing I can think off that caused the original allergic reaction (at least thats what it seems to be) is a bee sting since there are bees outside out patio, or that she possibly ingested some mold/mildew on a old piece of furniture outside?

Please help my little lexi, poor thing. Oh and she is a female boston terrier about age 3.

Any help appreciated. I will call the vet in the morning but he didnt seem to know what the deal was.
Thanks!

I also wanted to add… it dont really think it was an external sting because there wasnt really one localized place on her body… the contracting on the muscles was only on the top of her head but had no actual puncture marks anywhere. Could this be a reaction to something wrong with her liver caused by the meds??? it just seems weird to have all these symptoms happen one after another within only 3 days.. seems like they should relate in some way.
and yes she has been vaccinated too.
she also has not had a fever, normal pulse, normal vital signs etc…seems to be very healthy otherwise, just sleepy and a little out of it (she acts like she is stoned)
could be possibly be from : steroid responsive tremor syndrome?? I have been researching online ..but i dont have a white dog.
