vacation ideas for a family of 5 for only the weekend?
Posted by: | Commentsok so my parents want our entire family to go on a little weekend vacation and we don’t have any ideas. we want to drive because i’m terrified of airplanes and we live in chicago so it has to be sorta close. it could be in illinois, indiana, wisconsin, michigan or iowa. i hav a sister that is 4 and a brother that is 19 and i’m 14 so we need somethinn fun for the entire family. we thought about going to the Wilderness Territory in wisconsin dells but its better to go there in the winter because the indoors is warmer, and also my mom doesn’t see the fun in going to a water park, soooooo no waterparks. also my parents don’t really like to go camping in the wild. my brother and i do but my parents don’t. we went to niagara falls in the beginning of summer and there were ALOT of stuff to do there so my mom wants something like that. please give me some ideas that would be fun for the entire family.

I have been called a jerk, someone said having e as sister was punishment enough because I asked about a very old Jewish tradition of when people recited the prayer for the dead when a Jew willingly converted to Christianity. It was a knee jerk question asked of tremendous sorrow. I accept those perceptons. But I have been crying all week since my brother told me of his conversion months before. I hear my parents and grandparents crying from the grave over what I feel is a horrendous decision. It is indeed his life and he has a right to live
it how he sees fit, but I have felt and acted like I have been sitting shiva all week. He is fairly prominent and something in me tells me that this very public conversion has caused him to write his own death warrant. I cry for the conversion and I cry for my fears for his life. As I said to him and others, the pain in my heart is continual, the tears keep flowing, the anger never ceases. I am trying to get pastoral help both from a rabbi and perhaps a priest to get thru this. I have an elderly uncle who is not only heartbroken, but nauseous as I when we both read the extensive congratulations on line for my brother being embraced by the Catholic religion. Intolerant yes, I accept that as well. But to you Christians out there, despite what some think, Anti Semitism still is alive and well. Think of Mel Gibson. My cousin’s 13 year old son was a recent victim at soccer camps in both Indiana and Wisconsin. So it is hard for me to accept this decision I need help from people who have faced this dilemma.
Where can I go camping in central massachusetts and actually have fun with my 21-25 year old friends? Where will we not get yelled at for drinking into the wee hours of the night?
Is the summer heat in Dallas bearable (swedish family visiting)?
Posted by: | CommentsSo my dad has a business meeting next week in Dallas and my mother, my two brothers and I are also going since we are on holiday and have only been once in the US (New York in 2007). We are arriving this Saturday 21st of August and staying till Thursday 2nd of September and are all very much looking forward to the visit and might rent a car and also travel a bit around Texas. Yet what scares me is that I read a lot about the unbearable summer heat in Dallas and even our guide advises to avoid June, July and August!
Since we are from Sweden, where it snows almost half of the year, we are not used to extremely hot weather. Therefore I am a bit worried if my family and I can bear the heat and if we can even do any long trips outside the hotel.
So how hot does it really get in Dallas in August? Is the heat still bearable? Are long car trips during the day even possible? And do all hotels, shopping centers etc. have air-conditioning?
P.S. I don’t want to sound ignorant but being from northern europe I really have no idea! Thanks for your answers and excuse my not so good english =)

What do you look for in a family vacation?
The ritual of planning the summer vacation, sans child, used to be a fun but exhausting chore. Requirements were few. Basically, how far away could I get on my meager budget, and where was the closest bar? The more exotic the better on both counts….
