How To Make an Aluminum Can Solar Air Furnace: Part 1/4

Learn the basics to building a lasting, efficient, aluminum can-solar air furnace, step by step. This short video series takes you from establishing a proper frame size to various methods of ‘finishing’ your furnace for both aesthetic and weather proofing purposes. The total cost of this project was about $30.00. The beer cans are recycled, the glass is salvaged from an old solarium, the aluminum cladding , insulation, and the lumber used for the frame work is all salvaged material from a construction site., and the DC fan is salvaged from an old pc. Spray paint and high heat adhesive/tape were the only materials purchased; a complete material list is available in the video. A solar air furnace is a great way to contribute to the thermal mass in any home, providing the sun is shining and the furnace(s) is facing it, and this video is a great tutorial to show both skilled DIYers as well as beginners, how to accomplish it; tho a word of caution to those with little to no experience with power tools – seek the aid of an expert. Of course, creative thinking could also open a door for ‘substitutes’ to power tools

Solar Furnace air temp.

This is another update showing the air temp. blowing in is 110F degrees. The temp. outside is 42Fdegrees.

how to light the furnace on mypop up camper?
Posted by: | CommentsCan anyone tell me how the furnace on my pop up camper operates. It’s a 2004 fleetwood pop up with an Atwood Hydro flame 7900-II 8000-II series furnace. At least that’s the manual that came with the pop up. The instructions are not very good and I don’t know if i have to light something or just turn the thermostat up.
Rusty that is how I light my hot water heater. Mark, it sounds like that is exactly what i need to do. Although if we are hooked up to electric it should run off the electric not the battery, correct? How long will my propane last if we only run it at night?
I have a 1979 prowler camper with a coleman presidential furnace. I smell gas when I try to light the pilot light so I know its getting gas to the pilot. I was wondering if I can light the pilot manually. I know this unit is obsolete and can probably not find a part to fix it. can I bypass the pilot ignitor (light it manually) and still use the heater?

This is part 3, please watch parts 1 & 2 to see how I built this. The testing continues. I have seen alot of you mounting your solar heaters on a flat wall, so I did the same thing. If you angle your box towards the sun you can increase your temp dramatically. The concern I have now is if I tilt the box I could damage my intake and exhaust tubes.

How do I properly light and operate a Pop up campers furnace?
Posted by: | CommentsIts a propane furnace and im unsure on how to use it properly and safely. I know that there is a control box under the table in our camper that has an off switch and what seems to be a heat slider. The camper is a 2000 Viking im not sure what the model is or anything but were going camping this weekend and its suppose to get cold and was wondering how to use it. Thanks.
