I have some experience with Red Cedar patio furniture. I was interested to see if anyone has tried some other material for long lasting results.

in a covered patio

I moved in with him 3 months ago, beautiful home, and am dying to decorate. Nothing crazy, just some basics – dining room table, outdoor patio set, desk, etc. But every time I bring this up he reminds me that he just bought a new bedroom set and living room set for us and that it was really expensive. Then he reminds me that he bought our house along with our place in the mountains. This is all true, but it doesn’t mean we no longer need a dining room table. We’re in our 30s… it’s reasonable to want a dining room table so we can have guests over.

So today I decided to jump on looking at the furniture on my own and found some stuff I loved at Crate & Barrel. When I sent him the links he got all funky about it and said it was really expensive. So then I went to Cost Plus which is WAY cheaper and still he was acting like I was asking him to buy me a Porsche or something. So I offered to pay for these things, but he said he doesn’t feel comfortable with that since I make so much less $ than him.

So what should I do? Every time I bring this up he gets in a bad mood.

Our landlord is requesting access to our apartment to “upgrade the electrical subpanel.” We live in California, where there is a 24 hour notice to enter, which they have complied with. As part of the notice, they have requested that we move furniture and other things that may block access to the work area. One of the areas they have requested access to is the storage closet on our patio, which is filled to the brim. The request is also asking for access to an area that would require moving a TV stand and A LOT of A/V equipment. My question is what is our requirement in order to legally fulfill our end of the lease. It seems pretty unreasonable to request the movement of all this furniture and belongings. Moving the A/V equipment will require a minimum two hour commitment, by my estimation. Also, where are we to put all the stuff from the storage closet for two days while the work is scheduled to be done?

I have a white wicker indoor patio set that I’m thinking of spray painting dark brown. If anyone has done this before please tell me the brand of spray paint you used and the name of the shade. I’m trying to achieve a natural wood feel.

I LOVE this outdoor living room set I saw..it will go underneith a patio. Where I live it doesn’t rain much BUT my dogs pee on everything. Is it possible that I take off the cusions and, maybe, spray paint it with a clear gloss to protect the ‘weatherproof’ wicker?

Me and my ex boyfriend of 6 years broke up. I paid for everything in this place EXCEPT for the couch, TV, table and bed. We went halfers on that. None of us have reciepts. So, my question is, since i have a son, I don’t make as good money as he does (we broke up cause i CAUGHT HIM CHEATING in the act, hotel room!! that moron!) can i keep everything without him suing me? He is very emotionally abusive to me, i plan on taking things when he wont be around that way he cant physically attack me. I just don’t want to get in trouble with the law you know? Please help. all I need is the TV couch and bed, he can keep the table, his BBQ Grill, the patio furniture. I think its fair right? The BBQ alone cost 500$

Reasonable patio furniture?

Posted by: | Comments (6)

My husband and I just closed on our new home! We take posession in a month. The main selling feature for us was the fact that it has the MOST amazing backyard with a lagoon style pool, hot tub, palm/fruit trees, and gazebo. We would love some nice looking furniture (chaise lounges, a big dining set, comfortable lounge chairs etc). We live in Florida, where we can spend 9-10 months a year outdoors, so it seems like a reasonable place to furnish nicely!

Does anybody have any recommendations for beautiful outdoor furniture that won’t break the bank? I wish that we could order from Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware, but it just doesn’t seem smart to spend $10,000 on furniture that’s going to get rained on when we have young children who need college funds!!

I’m a big online shopper… any tips would be much appreciated :-)

Strange bugs on patio furniture?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Last night I noticed these very, very small bugs crawling all over the arms of our patio chairs on the screened-in porch. After a bit of freaking out and some examination, I thought them to be baby ticks, but their bodies are too elongated to be ticks. Reminder: They are very, very small and brownish in color. I don’t have a clue as to how they got there or what they might be.

Does anyone have any ideas?
