Problem w/restore loop, iPod won’t transfer music etc, hard drive issue?
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve had a 5th generation 30GB (video) iPod since August ’06. I’ve never had a problem with it until two weeks ago. I plugged it into a family member’s USB cord to charge it on the computer for a few minutes before I left home. The USB cord was Griffin brand (I think, but I know it wasn’t Apple). A message popped up a few minutes later that said, “your iPod needs to be reformatted to work with Windows. Do you want to reformat?” And I clicked “no”. After I removed my iPod to my dismay my full iPod had been reformatted anyway! Then I plugged it into my laptop with a proper Apple cord and iTunes told me it was corrupted and needed to be restored. I clicked restore, it went through all the stages, told me it was complete, and after the iPod restarted it asked me to restore it again – the restore loop of death.
So I reset it. I reformatted it. I (tried to) restore it. I remapped the network path to I:, and then M: when that didn’t work. I retried in numerous USB ports, I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest iTunes. I ran diagnostics tests on my iPod, EXCEPT for the scan HDD because apparently that test doesn’t exist on my iPod. Then I did the scan on my computer and it was apparently error free. My iPod doesn’t exhibit any weird sounds by the way, when it’s starting or anything and nothing seems loose in it. After trying all these things a hundred times I got frustrated and hit the bottom backside of the iPod against a wooden desk. When I plugged it into my computer again it finally allowed me to restore it. I was a happy camper… it let me rename my iPod and everything. But when I tried to put music on, it would copy one or two songs and then give me an error -69 from iTunes. I had to disconnect the iPod and reconnect to try to move two songs. Usually I got a -69 but once a -53. The sync didn’t work properly so I uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes again. Nothing. So then I downloaded SharePod and MediaMonkey and they wouldn’t transfer my songs either. My computer-savvy boyfriend also worked on it for a total of 7 hours and couldn’t get it working either.
What could be the problem with my iPod?! Is it my hard drive? Can it be fixed? What should I do with it now? I have a suspicion that the non-official USB cord (the Griffin one) messed it up permanently. Have you heard of non-Apple cords corrupting iPods???
Thanks so much.
I need a second opinion, issue with neighbors?
Posted by: | CommentsI live in a middle to upper-middle class neighborhood. About a week ago one of my neighbors put a medium sized camper trailer in front of their home. I have noticed that there are people living in the trailer… but this seems so far fetched to me I don’t know what to make of it.
Perhaps these people would be otherwise homeless (bad economy). If that is the case, I don’t want to bother them.
#####HOWEVER#####
There is a background history with this family. They own two homes (cousins), across the street from each other. After the mom passed, the house was left empty. They had a homeless man living in it for a long time. He was acting as a security guard.
I walk my dog every morning and late evening. In time, this man noticed me and began watching me. Soon, he began standing in front of my house. One day, he approached a friend of mine that looks like me. At that point, I called the police.
The police checked his history, which was “erased” and this was questionable to the police. Long story short, the man suddenly disappeared. I thought the drama with these people was over.
One night there were 4 police cars in front of their home.
They have huge moving trucks in their home very often; I don’t know what for.
They don’t fit in with the neighborhood. Every here works business hours and have quite happy families.
I do not want to be prejudice but from what I have seen of them so far, it’s really hard not to be.
Should I not call the city (as I am sure they are breaking some ordinance or can be considered a fire hazard, etc). I really want to mind my own business but the last time I did that, I had a homeless man stalking me.
Maybe these people in the camper are totally decent and safe people. I don’t know. What should I do? Objective third opinions needed. Please don’t be pointless or rude.
Thanks!!!
In a great sense, my dog offers me security. When the homeless man lived in that house (for about a year!), my dog would sit at the window at night and growl like mad. He would get furious. This was before I even noticed the homeless man was standing outside the house he was living in, in the dark. Even now as I’m writing this, it’s hard to believe.
The account with no name: Good point and thank you for bringing this up. I have actually wondered this myself. This family does have too many people living in that house to begin with. I don’t know what to make of it but leaning towards leaving them alone but having the police number on speed dial.
When the homeless man was living in the house, I asked the neighbor that lived in the house across from mine (she sold her home and moved about a month ago). She has two daughters. She told me he used to look at her girls and so she stopped allowing them to play outside.
The neighbors to the left of me moved around the same time. I am being left with very few people to talk to. I live at the end of a cul de sac.

In partnership with the city of Evanston, a mobile unit of the Chicago Mexican Consulate set up shop in the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., from Thursday to Saturday to provide members of the local Mexican community with a form of identification.
Evanston resident Felipe wants his 17-year-old daughter Leticia to go to college, but as a Mexican national, Leticia didn’t have the right type of identification.
From Thursday to Saturday, a mobile unit from the Chicago Mexican Consulate set up shop, including Felipe and his 17-year-old daughter Leticia, to obtain identification documents. Their last names have been withheld due to unclear immigration status.
“We host this unit to help provide a basic service to our residents,” said Adelita Hernandez, a community information specialist with the city and organizer of the event. “It helps encourage civil engagement among all members of the Evanston community.”
The three-day event allowed Mexican nationals to walk in and get a Mexican passport or a matricula identification card with help from the consulate. With these documents, proof of residence can be verified so residents can take part in basic city services such as enrolling their children for school or summer camp, Hernandez said.
The city has accepted the matricula card as a form of identification after passing an ordinance in 2004, Hernandez said. The Mexican government, through its consulates, issues the matricula card to Mexican nationals living outside of Mexico. The card contains similar information to a driver’s license.
“There could be a host of different situations for why people need these identification cards,” Hernandez said.

Let’s review the facts on the blood test (Mayweather-Pacquiao) issue shall we?
Posted by: | CommentsOk, as far as I know. The Pacquiao camp has agreed on three (3) blood tests. One on January before the press conference, one thirty (30) days prior to the fight, and one (1) immediately after the fight, in addition to giving as many pee samples as Floyd wants. But the Floyd camp wants a finite number of random blood tests during the entire training camp and a required blood test 48 hours before the fight night. Please correct my details if there is something wrong.
If the details above are correct to some extent, can you not see that what Floyd is asking is too much and is extrmely unfair? Here are my points on why it is so.
1. Olympic-style drug testing (including the blood test) is not a standard practice in professional boxing. The Nevada State Athletic Commission is the one responsible in drug testing and Pacquiao passed this already 10 times. Pacquiao’s camp agreeing to these DEMANDS from the Mayweather camp is already a sign of submission to the Mayweather’s pre-fight tactics- isn’t that enought handicap from the Pacquiao camp?
2. Pacquiao is a hard worker in the gym. He burns like 7000 calories per day training. Could you imagine what taking blood does to you when you train like that? You can’t have blood continuously taken from you and not affect your extreme training routine (Follow-up point on item 5).
3. Blood taken from you 48 hours before the fight? Everyone knows this is too much. It takes 3 to 4 days to a week before a person recovers completely after being drawn of blood (depending on the amount taken). A normal person might not feel this weakening, but elite athletes who needs to be perfectly conditioned definitely will be affected significantly.
4. The Mayweather camp did good research. They knew Pacquiao is superstitious about what blood being taken from him a few days before a fight could do. This is with regards to Pacquiao’s psychology and most probably may not really have actually physical effects. Everybody knows how important is mental conditioning in the fight, and seems Pacquiao is always 100% mentally prepared for a fight, the Mayweather camp has found a good trick to make Pacquiao mentally awkward. A dirty, but effective trick.
5. Pacquiao is an intensity fighter. His style includes constant pressure and aggression. Even if both Floyd and Manny comes in weak because of the blood drawn out, only Manny would be greatly affected. Mayweather has always been known to be relaxed in fights, whereas Pacquiao is best when intense and aggressive. Mayweather has never been known to win by hurting his opponents when his opponents are elites (or at least close to that status), Mayweather wins on points. But Pacquiao is known to hurt his opponents bad and thus neutralizing them to win (elite opponents or not). You can see how the same thing can affect different people in different ways (which is also true in life). That is why the taxation system in democratic countries is equity based, not equality based. Just because both of them will do it doesn’t mean it’s fair. Think about it.
BONUS question: Name a performance enhancing drug that can only be detected within 48 hours after it has been taken, and at the same time can only be detected by blood test, and is completely undetectable after 48 hours of taking it?
@EzLover23 and Norman Bates
Happy Holidays. Can you just answer or rebut my points instead of accusing me? This is a boxing forum (effectively), and people discuss their perspectives and ideas. I did my thinking can you do yours? I wouldn’t mind if you prove me wrong, as long as you prove it concisely. Man I didn’t expect this low level thinking, especially from you Norman Bates.

Biological mother issue, PLEASE HELP!?
Posted by: | CommentsWhen I was 5 months old I was placed up for adoption by my mother. Shortly after that I was adopted by my parents, who sadly both died when I was 11 in a drunk driving accident. I was brought up mainly in Nebraska on my moms thriving farm and frequented England and South Africa because my parents were both doctors.Fast forward 4 1/2 yrs, im 16 and currently living in London with me and my friends in our dorm room.I get a knock on the door from a PI that tells me that my bio mom is in Kansas and requested to meet, so because I was traveling to Topeka to pick up my new car anyway I decided to stop by for a visit. When I got there, everything seemed okay but eventually it turned bad when my bio mom found the receipt for my 2007 mustang and the accessories I added to it, and also found out how much I inherited from my parents, who left me a fair bit of money from the businesses they and my family started. So now not only are they implying that im selfish for spending so much on a car and not lending them any money to pay off bills but my bio sister, aunt, and mom are constantly calling and harassing me about not only moving to their beloved trailer but not letting me see a dime of my money until im 18! Also, their constantly harassing my GF and saying that shes using my for my money and precede to call her every name in the book on Myspace and now im constantly receiving papers saying that I must go to Kansas for visitation and a DNA test to! So naturally, when the days come to where im scheduled to go to Kansas I run off, and its now got to the point where my bio sister and aunt are now searching all of London for me as we speak! What should I do? Should I fly back to Nebraska and hide out on my farm, or should I remain hidden under my GF’S bed?
Also, I should mention that im a jew and their scientologist and my bio family is heavily involved in the sea org, and have vowed to raise me the “right way”, which is ironic seeing as my GF is involve in anti-scientologist protests! My bio fam met my GF the last time I was traveling from Nebraska to LA to take her to a convention and I decided to stop by for a friendly visit, needless to say that things got intresting… Well anyway, my bio dad lives in Kansas as well and my greedy bio family constantly asks me about how much money I’ve made from my 50,000 ac farm and have vowed to make my bio dad sue for me, and in return share custody, can they do this? Also, can they extort money from my account, and control my farm and my parents businesses that I inherited?
I should not that the courts granted her visitation somewhat because of the fact that my grandmother is my only surviving relative and is about to die =( and she is my guardian. But, the stipulation is that she must prove to the court apon thieir ruling that we have formed a relatopnship, so in a way its my choice. With amount of estate I inherited, their sure as hell not taking no for an answer, even going as far as to now be looking for me so they can “willingly” take my home with them, and now my friends are trying to hide my car somewhere they wont find it!

Evangelicals energized by McCain-Palin ticket
August 30, 2008 9:02 AM EDT
Sarah Palin already has energized conservative religious leaders who had fretted that John McCain would pick an abortion rights supporter as his running mate. The Alaska governor was raised in a Pentecostal church and has called herself “as pro-life as any candidate can be.”
To Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religion Liberties Commission, Palin is “straight out of veep central casting.” Land said he had urged the McCain camp to consider the political unknown.
Gary Bauer, one of McCain’s most enthusiastic evangelical supporters, said the Arizona senator had hit a “grand slam home run” and that adding Palin to the GOP ticket is “guaranteed to energize values voters.”
The 44-year-old mother of five, who led her high school chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, was baptized as a teenager at the Wasilla Assembly of God Church, where she and her family were very active, according to her then-pastor, Paul Riley.
She now sometimes worships at the Juneau Christian Center, which is also part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, said Brad Kesler, business administrator of the denomination’s Alaska District. But her home church is The Church on the Rock, an independent congregation, Riley said.
“The church was kind of a foundation for her,” said Riley, who said he gave the invocation at Palin’s inauguration and had her address students at the church last month.
Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, said Palin attends different churches and does not consider herself Pentecostal.
As a politician, Palin has sided with the majority evangelical view in opposing gay marriage and expressing a desire to see creationism discussed alongside evolution in schools.
During a 2006 debate, she said she was a proponent of teaching both evolution and creationism in schools. She later clarified her stance in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News, saying that she doesn’t think creationism needed to be part of the curriculum and that she would not push the state Board of Education to add such alternatives to the state’s required curriculum.
Not only does Palin oppose abortion as a matter of policy, but she chose to give birth to her youngest child, a son, after a prenatal exam indicated Down syndrome. Studies show that about nine in 10 pregnant women who are given a Down syndrome diagnosis have chosen to have an abortion.
“That will resonate in a big way,” said Quin Monson, a Brigham Young University professor who studies religion and politics.
Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, who initially said he could not vote for McCain but has since opened the door to an endorsement, called Palin “an outstanding choice that should be extremely reassuring to the conservative base” of the GOP. Dobson added that the ticket “gives us confidence he will keep his pledges to voters regarding the kinds of justices he would nominate to the Supreme Court.”
“It’s an absolutely brilliant choice,” said Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law. “This will absolutely energize McCain’s campaign and energize conservatives.”
Staver called Palin a “a woman of faith who has a strong position on life, a consistent opinion on judges. … She’s the complete package.”
A Pew poll last week showed McCain leading Democrat Barack Obama 68 percent to 24 percent among white evangelical Protestants. But there was little enthusiasm: Only 28 percent of white evangelicals call themselves “strong” supporters of McCain, far short of President Bush’s numbers four years ago.
Many evangelical leaders said McCain helped himself with a solid performance at Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church, where McCain proclaimed, “I will be a pro-life president.”
Mark Silk, who specializes in religion and politics at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., cautioned that while evangelical leaders are praising the Palin pick, it might not necessarily trickle down.
“The question is how this will be received by a lot of rank-and-file evangelicals who are just Americans struggling along, going to their megachurches, and care about values,” Silk said.
Some question whether old-guard traditional leaders, like Dobson, hold as much influence as in the past. The evangelical establishment never warmed to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s candidacy, but grass-roots evangelicals contributed to his big win in the Iowa primaries.
Evangelical leaders got worried when McCain floated the possibility of a vice presidential candidate who supports abortion rights, including Sen. Joe Lieberman or former Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge.
By choosing Palin, “McCain is saying to social and religious conservatives, ‘I’m taking your views incredibly seriously,’”
