Following Michelle Obama’s Spanish vacation renting all 60 rooms at a Luxury Spanish Villa with her youngest daughter & 40 of Michelle’s closest friends and before the whole family 10 day get away to Martha Vineyard in Massachusetts the advisers to Obama got him to squeeze in a 2 day weekend getaway in Panama City, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico just to counter the ELITIST IMAGE there many, many vacations to most luxurious spots the taxpayers money can get them to on Air Force 1 & 2.
I guess they needed a 2 day weekend getaway to help them rest up from all that luxurious vacationing they have been doing this summer.
In the past 18 months the Obama has taken 8 vacations – HOW MANY HAVE YOU TAKEN?
ARE THE OBAMAS SLUMMING IT DOWN ON THE GULF OF MEXICO ON A TWO DAY WEEKEND GETAWAY?
Oh, and those who want to attack Bush to try and defend the elitist vacationing of the Obama’s – Bush in 8 years took 77 trips home to his ranch in Crawford – and stayed in his 1,300 sq ft home and cut brush. Oh and the house was fully wired and connected to allow him to do everything he could do at the White House. The second place he spent most of his “vacation” time was at Camp David mostly on weekends and again Camp David the presidential getaway is wired up like the White House allowing him to do everything he needed to from there.
Congress left on vacation Aug 2001 and when George W. Bush decided to spend most of August at his ranch in Texas instead of the White House the Press had a conniption criticizing Bush. So far no such thing from the press even in light of the recession, gulf spill and Michelle’s Spanish luxury get away w/ 40 best friends.

Can an Australian student apply for a US J1 visa whilst in Mexico?
Posted by: | CommentsI am studying in Mexico for a year from this August, and will have finished classes by mid-May 2011. In 2007 I worked at a summer camp in the US, a great experience which I would love to repeat in the summer of 2011.
I applied through CCUSA, and will probably do the same this time around. The problem is, my visa application in 2007 involved an interview at the US Consulate in Sydney to get the J1 working visa. Since I will be in Mexico during this stage of the application, I’m wondering if I can apply and have the interview at a US Consulate in Mexico?
Thanks in advance!
Road Trip from New Mexico to Michigan…..?
Posted by: | CommentsSo, my future mother in law and I are going to go on a road trip. We are leaving from New Mexico and heading up to Michigan. She has asked me to plan it. We are planning to camp out instead of staying at hotels and do alot of sight seeing. What are some hotspots that we should not miss? Any advice is welcome since i am out of my element here and she is an expert at planning these types of things. I would really like to show her a great time.
we would probably be going through North Texas, oklahoma, missouri, illinois, nortwest tip of Indiana and then to Michigan.
What do U think More than 200 U.S. citizens killed in Mexico since ’04?
Posted by: | CommentsA 22-year-old man from Houston and his 16-year-old friend are hauled out of a minivan in Mexico, shot execution style by thugs in a black Lincoln Continental, and left dead in the dirt.
The body of a 65-year-old nurse from Brownsville is found floating in the Rio Grande after a visit to a Mexican beauty salon.
An American retiree, an ex-Marine, is stabbed to death as he camps on a Baja beach with his dog.
More than 200 U.S. citizens have been slain in Mexico’s escalating wave of violence since 2004 — an average of nearly one killing a week, according to a Houston Chronicle investigation into the deaths.
Rarely are the killers captured.
The U.S. State Department tracks most American homicides abroad, but the department releases minimal statistics and doesn’t include victims’ names or details about the deaths. The Chronicle examined hundreds of records to document the personal tragedies behind them.
“I’m no longer the same person,” said Paula Valdez, a Houston mother whose son was slain near her childhood home in Mexico’s Guerrero state in 2004.
More U.S. citizens suffered unnatural deaths in Mexico than in any other foreign country — excluding military killed in combat zones — from 2004 to 2007, State Department statistics show.
Most died in the recent outbreaks of violence in border cities — Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez and Nuevo Laredo.
Although, historically, even Mexico’s most violent urban centers had homicide rates below those of major U.S. cities, recent attacks and border violence driven by drug demand have escalated well beyond limited narco-executions.
Juarez last year ranked among the world’s most murderous cities.
The Chronicle analysis showed some American homicide victims were involved in organized crime. The dead include at least two dozen victims labeled hitmen, drug dealers, human smugglers or gang members, based on published investigators’ accusations. Others were drug users or wanted for crimes in the United States.
But in at least 70 other cases, U.S. citizens appear to have been killed while in Mexico for innocent reasons: visiting family, taking a vacation, or simply living or working there.
Locations and intentions
In an interview with the Chronicle, Mexican Congressman Juan Francisco Rivera Bedoya of Nuevo Leon, a former prosecutor who heads the national Public Safety Commission, said he believes most American victims get killed after crossing the border to participate in illegal activities or venturing into unsafe areas.
“Tourists visiting cathedrals, museums and other cultural centers are not at risk,” he said.
Across Mexico, more than 5,000 lives were taken last year, including police, public officials, journalists and bystanders, with seemingly little regard for age, social status or nationality, Mexican authorities report.
Mutilated bodies have been draped on highway overpasses or posed in schoolyards and public squares. Authorities have uncovered mass graves known as narcofosas and body disposal sites, where killers dissolved corpses in barrels of chemicals.
At least 40 Americans were among those killed and dumped in gruesome methods favored by cartel killers, the Chronicle found. Two Texan teens were victims of an American serial killer in Nuevo Laredo, who bragged to a friend in a recorded cell phone call that he stewed their remains in vats.
Recent border victims include at least 15 U.S.-born children and teenagers.
In 2008, Austin Kane Danielsen, an 18-year-old Kansan visiting Mexico for the first time, was attacked, beaten and kicked after leaving a disco in Matamoros. His attackers used a pickup to drag his brutalized body 30 yards and dumped it next to a railroad track.

Mexico has a strict immigration policy. They want to export criminals, low level workers and reap the monetary rewards of US money being sent back to Mexico from illegal workers. Illegal workers in the US often live in camps or many people in one small building or apartment. They send much of the money back to Mexico that they earn. 1/3 of our prisons in Ca are illegals and the New York Times reported that they cost California 10 billion per year. Mexico jails illegals and sends them back. Is Mexico prejudiced toward South Americans? Mexico is a mess and it is obvious that Obama just wants to continue the Bush policy of merging the US and Mexico together in one coop government along with Canada. Obama is destroying this nation.
perfect Barb. To the foul mouth guy below why does Mexico inforce its borders. Second; if the US is so bad, why do people want to come here so badly? Also we paid Mexico for the land so don’t use the old “you stole Mexico garbage.” Mexico is corrupt and I listed my source the liberal NY Times. 10 billion per year. Arizona had to enforce the law due to Mexican kidnappings. Mexico is sending its problems North. Get your own house in order Mexico. PS. A surfer was in a car crash in Mexico with a broken back. They handcuffed him to a 2 x 4′ until his family paid the $4000 in cost and this took until 4am after which time they were able to get him to the US via helicopter. Illegals are having massive amounts of anchor babies and costing us all a fortune in the US. I say no more anchor babies and no more illegals. You must apply for a work visa or citizenship.
Carlos. Do you fly the US flag along with the Mexican flag? If Mexico is so great then why are you here? You either should love the US or live in Mexico. Oh and by the way two of my best friends are Mexican Rico and Louie. They do not like illegal immigration either. Ricos’ mother was born in Ensenada and was legal. She made a great life in the US but did it legally and loved the US. Carlos it sounds like you do not like the US.
we have never done very much climbing but a couple be for. we are looking to take the bull of woods route and camp on the summit. we need to know what kind of gear we will need.
I know about ALL of the requirements as far as papers to import car and ins etc etc, have really done my homework…. however, I have too much stuff to fit in my minivan unless I remove one of the three row seats, and fold down the other. I had hoped to put it on the rack on top of car. I am told by someone that lived there years ago, that you cannot put anything on top of the car on a rack! Is this true? Also, told that police check to make sure that all seats are in the car, and if I remove one and leave at home in the usa, police/customs will make me buy a new one! Is this true? Also, I am taking alot of stuff, but am staying for approx five and a half months! Was told by many that I do not have to declare anything as it is all old stuff and for my use over there. Inc. used microwave, food processor, pots and pans, all used kitchen stuff, four large coolers etc. my old clothes, shoes etc. Am staying in my long term boyfriends half finished cement house in the mountains, have stayed there before for 4 months and really hard as I got sick from the water and spicy food. There is electric, but the kitchen outside where they cook with firewood. This trip I want to cook my food my way, and for them too. Also taking new portable camping toilet as no water line to house. Also taking old airconditioner as I have asthma and need it, last time the asthma was a problem without the ac. I find it hard to believe with all the problems over there re drugs and guns at the border, that I will have a problem with all my planning and perfect papers, etc. I found the police over there last time to be nice and helpful, never a problem. But mexican friend here is telling me they will try to take my things as they are not available over there, ie portable toilet! My boyfriends family has no money, and I have sold everything here in usa to get the money for this trip, just about to the penny with little left over for food etc. I am in my travelling alone from nyc to south of mexico, I know it will not be easy, and of course I am a little afraid of the violence in the news, but will be as carefull as possible! Just do not want problems with customs! Anyone really know what is correct info about stuff on top of car and taking out the third row seat? THANK~ YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR ANY INFO AND ADVICE YOU MAY HAVE!
I had also wanted to take 3 really cheap used folding small tables, and 2 folding chairs, use one for microwave one for computer and one to eat. Are these considered house hold furniture? or not? could be used for outside camping. thanks to Charlie for his answer and help!
