Archive for midwest

I’m looking to go camping/vacationing in the Midwest area [Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, etc.] I was wondering if anyone would know of a nice place that would be quite cheap in pricing, that included a cabin/lodge/resort with bathrooms/bath? I have about 5 people going with me. I’m looking to stay for about a week or 4 nights…something of that sort.

Thanks :)

Dear all,

My husband and I will be celebrating our first anniversary this September. We’ll be in Indiana at the time, and really don’t know the Midwest at all. So we’re asking for your help and expertise!

What is a great place to spend two nights, no more than 4 or 5 hours from SW Indiana?

Some extra info:
- We’re looking to spend between $150-300 or so per night
- We love history, museums, antiques and art
- We’re not outdoorsy (no hiking/camping), though we would enjoy a quiet place in the countryside with exciting things in the area (museums, historic estates, etc)
- We’re not really looking for a big city trip, unless you have a really great specific location for a city within our reach (like Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Chicago, Louisville, etc)
- We’d like to stay at a unique hotel or Bed and Breakfast.

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience and expert advice. Let us know why you love the place you recommend!

Hunter/Jumper Camp in Midwest?

Posted by: | Comments (3)

I usually go to 2 or 3 riding camps every summer, but this is my last year for one of them. I am looking to replace this camp with another hunter/jumper camp that focuses mainly on riding (minimal “activity periods”). I would like to focus on both flatwork and jumping. I could go to a camp where you bring your own horse but it isn’t a necessity. This camp needs to be in the midwest, or not to far away from Indiana. Any good suggestions?
A link to a camp website would be awesome. Thanks guys!

Midwest road trip to Yellowstone.?

Posted by: | Comments (2)

So I’m going to yellowstone national park with my friend this summer, June 7-14, and am beginning planning out this trip. We live near Champaign, IL and I have never been farther west than Branson, MO so I have no idea what is out there beyond Missouri. This trip is kinda helping us check a few things off our bucket list. So what should we do, or where would you recommend going? We are going cheap. We’re roughing it. Every night we will sleep in a tent or the car. We would like to kayak and camp on the shore at some point (know of any good rivers? I love kayaking the current!). We want to go hiking! (Know of any trails that have breath taking scenery?) This is what I REALLLYY want to find: An old honky tonk saloon for us to get a couple of beers (it’s mostly an inside joke). We both love the outdoors and aren’t afraid to get dirty so help me out with some ideas on what I should do!
Thanks!

I have a 10 year old son that has been “diagonsed” ADD/ADHD, Midly Bipolar, ODD, & depressed we have tried countless meds, therapies, counselours, dr’s, etc. Nothing seems to help him. He doesn’t care about anything, if he’s in trouble and we take things away, he doesn’t care. He yells, demeans his little sister, back talks me, distroys items and completely lacks respect for women in particular. I have checked into getting him into wilderness camp or boot camp, but we cannot afford such a thing and we’re in the mid-west (Indiana) there is nothing of that sort around here. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I am at my wits ends with him. Nothing has gotton through to him, we’ve tried many things, reward system, spanking, grounding, paying extra attention to him, praise, chores, money, and nothing works. Any ligitamate suggestions are appreciated.
As an added note….my son’s father and I are divorced, but still the best of friends. I have since remarried, their step-dad is wonderful in every way. My kids adore him. However, their dad did cheat on me with another woman during our marriage, and he still dates her. He moved her in within days of me and the kids moving out. She is not a nice person and has imposed much heartache on both my children. Their dad moved out on his own about a month ago because he could see the heartache. We were hoping this would help my son, but it hasn’t seem to yet. I think his lack of respect for women comes from the fact that he blames his dad’s girlfriend for breaking up his mom and dad’s marriage.

I am looking for an english riding camp- not western! its ok if it offers both, but i want it to have at least english. it needs to be in the midwest, preferably in or around iowa. i would like it to be an advanced or intermediate riding level, including jumping. i am 14, so it has to include that age. it also has to be residential, not day camp. thanks in advance to anyone who answers and sorry or being so picky!

Summer riding camps in the midwest?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

I’ve only gone to a camp once, and it wasn’t that great. Could you recommend some summer riding camps in the midwest? Preferably near north-eastern Kansas. Also, I’d like to take my own horse if possible. Thanks!
