What is the best material for unique patio furniture?
Posted by: | CommentsI have some experience with Red Cedar patio furniture. I was interested to see if anyone has tried some other material for long lasting results.
Just broke a glass patio tabletop?
Posted by: | CommentsWe were moving the patio furniture and the glass tabletop part just broke. The size is 38×60 and home depot says they don’t custom cut glass that big. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement tabletop at a decent price? We’re willing to go plexiglass or lucite too, but everything I’ve found so far is pretty pricey, any ideas? Would love your help ![]()
**It does not have to be glass, other surfaces that are suitable for outdoors will work too.
In fact, replacing the glass will cost as much as the entire patio set.
So, I opted to make a mosaic table on cement board instead.
How can I protect the vinyl membrane on my rooftop patio?
Posted by: | CommentsI am wondering if patio furniture, a grill, etc might damage/tear the vinyl membrane on my rooftop patio. Because it is rooftop, if the membrane is damaged, it could mean serious water damage to the house…..
Do i need to do anything to protect it, like adding a layer of some other flooring material? If so, what?
Or are there ways to shop for furniture that is not likely to cause damage?
I’d love to hear from a homeowner that had a similar issue from personal experience and/or a contractor with professional experience….. thank you!!!
How can I make my own (inexpensive) patio?
Posted by: | CommentsI am moving into a new house in a month with a HUGE backyard. I really enjoy sitting outside and lounging, especially in the summer. Problem is this house has no deck or patio. It actually looks kind of silly because the backyard is so big but with nothing taking up space. With all of the other costs of moving in somewhere, I don’t want to put in a whole lot of money for this. I plan to get a real deck or patio eventually (probably not until next summer) but in the meantime, what can I do?
I’ve looked at Home Depot and the decent looking paving stones are expensive, especially for the amount I need. I plan to have a dining set, fire pit and grill so I need enough room for all of those things. Is there anything I can do other than just setting the patio furniture in the grass?
Any suggestions are appreciated! ![]()
I wanted to add, I do plan to save up and install a deck as soon as possible. But in the meantime I’m looking for an easy solution that will look decent. I plan to have a lot of company over so it needs to look somewhat nice. I thought I could simply flatten the grass, outline the area I want as a patio with brick and put mulch inside over some sort of tarp. That’s what I planned to do. Just looking for any other opinions as to if any one has tried this or has a better solution. Thanks guys!
Table Umbrella for a Roof Top Patio?
Posted by: | CommentsI have a patio on the roof of my condo (4th floor), and I’m buying patio furniture for it – i see that umbrellas are offered in wood and aluminum. Common sense would tell me that aluminum is the better route to go because 1) it’s less expensive and 2) it seems like it has a great ability to bend rather than snap with the wind. Any guidance is appreciated…
Reasonable patio furniture?
Posted by: | CommentsMy husband and I just closed on our new home! We take posession in a month. The main selling feature for us was the fact that it has the MOST amazing backyard with a lagoon style pool, hot tub, palm/fruit trees, and gazebo. We would love some nice looking furniture (chaise lounges, a big dining set, comfortable lounge chairs etc). We live in Florida, where we can spend 9-10 months a year outdoors, so it seems like a reasonable place to furnish nicely!
Does anybody have any recommendations for beautiful outdoor furniture that won’t break the bank? I wish that we could order from Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware, but it just doesn’t seem smart to spend $10,000 on furniture that’s going to get rained on when we have young children who need college funds!!
I’m a big online shopper… any tips would be much appreciated
Strange bugs on patio furniture?
Posted by: | CommentsLast night I noticed these very, very small bugs crawling all over the arms of our patio chairs on the screened-in porch. After a bit of freaking out and some examination, I thought them to be baby ticks, but their bodies are too elongated to be ticks. Reminder: They are very, very small and brownish in color. I don’t have a clue as to how they got there or what they might be.
Does anyone have any ideas?
When staining and sealing patio furniture, should underside be done also?
Posted by: | Commentssun bleached sea grass patio furniture?
Posted by: | Commentsrecently got some used patio furniture, I think it is sea grass, but it is faded from the sun. What product can I use to add color back to it? Someone recommended a spray polyurethane, I tried this on a small corner, and it didn’t do much. Would a brush on poly work, or a stain, or an oil?? I don’t want to change the color, I just want it to look like it does when it is wet (new again). Please help! THANKS.
