How many average American taxpayers take as many vacations in a year as Marie Antoinette Obama – that being 8?

According to the Chicago Sun-Times , by the end of the summer that will total eight this year. That has included New York in March, Chicago, their hometown, over Memorial Day, Los Angeles in June, Camp David in July, Maine in July where they visited Acadia National Park, and now Spain. Coming up is a trip to the Florida Gulf Coast on Aug. 14, said to be meant to encourage tourists who may be hesitant to travel to the coast because of the BP oil spill, and 10 days in Martha’s Vineyard starting Aug. 19.
We usually take 3 and people think we’re living large. **note to liberals…I pay for my own trips

Wow. I haven’t even taken a vacation in years. Just out of curiosity, were all of those trips tax-payer funded?
Haven’t had a vacation in 4 years, just a few long weekends
She’s looking for a real man.
I’m a liberal and I pay for my own trips to what makes any of us any different?
It is disgusting how they are wasting tax payer dollars on lavish vacations – they haven’t created any jobs and have made things worse for everyone.
And the Obamas are paying for the trip to Spain, contrary to what the right-wing hate machine is saying.
And Boy George spent more vacation time than Obama at this point in his presidency.
Note: The First Lady of the United States is HARDLY an average American. Nor is she the Queen of France!
Make that 9 – she had a little ski jaunt in Central Pennsylvania. At least on that one she had the decency to not shut down the whole place for the evening.
I think Bo, the white house dog, has had more vacations than I have. I’m so broke I can’t even afford dish soap.
Only the rich and famous
you and the conservative talkers historical reference comparing Maria Antoinette and Michelle Obama are wildly inaccurate.
Three a year, not half bad. We used to get two, tops. Maybe one year we got three. I haven’t taken one in years. I doubt that I’ll live to see another one.
But, at the same time, I do understand them, just from a family standpoint, completely apolitical, wanting to spend time with the kids and show them different places. I think if I had the time/money-resources, I would too.
I actually got to take FOUR last year. The FIRST time in my life when work permitted it and I could afford it, usually one or the other prevents me from getting that kind of time off.
-So I guess I have to thank Obama for crashing the economy enough for me to get time off without a problem and my own personal financial skills for being able to afford it.
8, is a little excessive for someone who is supposed to be goal orientated and ethically trying to set an example. But hey, you people voted for the dufus and his fat bich.
But she’s been slighted all her life simply because she is a black woman, so I’m sure we owe it to her. Geez! Where’s your guilt? It’s the least we can do. Besides, she’s finally proud of her country. You cannot possibly begrudge her 8 teensy weensy month long vacations in 8 months can you?
They are paying for their vacations, except their official entourage (government policy, you know). Note to cons: everybody pays for their own trips, except the official entourage required to be with the First Family at all times.
We are not taking any this year but we usually take one for five to seven days. Funny, I know several “rich” people who own small businesses and work 12-15 hours per day, six days a week and never take more than a few days off at at time. These are in the food and hospitality businesses.

Not many, especially nowadays. People are worried about not having a job, food, being homeless.
G.W. Bush racked up 879 vacation days during his two terms. At least Michelle Obama isn’t supposed to be navigating two wars as well. 879 days comes out to almost 2 years 5 months or 30% of his time spent as president. Can you go into work two thirds of the time and still get your full paycheck?
During the last 5 years I went on a number of vacations, all of them paid for by taxpayers, often they were over the holidays. In 2006 I spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in Afghanistan. I was on vacation again for Christmas and New Years 2008. And I didn’t pay for a thing while I was on my trips! Lodging, food, clothing; it was all expenses paid! I even got paid a per-diem and an increase in my standard monthly salary.
ALL politicians have flaws, but “the other guy” can do no right and “the good guys” can do no wrong.
none take as lavish nor the amount, even in retirement we don’t, and I paid enough in taxes last year to take the IRS as a dependent
