Is it cheap to do a mission trip and turn it into a fundraiser for our building?

I want to take my youth group into Mississippi and help with Hurricane recovery. Maybe work with Habitiat for Humanity for one -two days. It wouldnt cost us a thing. We are fortunate to be on the Alabama gulf coast so we can just drive over there.
My problem is, youth camp wiped out my youth account and I am in the process of building a youth room at our church.
I was thinking about having the studednts get pledges for the hours they are going to do mission work. ex. 10 hours working with Habitat for Humanity. I would get them to get like 50 cent or a dollar an hour pledges.
It would build my youth fund back up so I can get the room finished for the youth.
Is it cheap to turn a mission/charity work into a fundraiser?

Charity work should be just that…Charity. Teach them to help others without getting something in return. Try another fundraiser to build your youth account… bake sale..car wash..candle sale…candy….
I don’t know about the ethics there – if people are donating for you to go on the mission, and you use the money for something else, isn’t that fraud?
If you’re going on a mission trip, then raise funds for the mission trip. If you’re going to create a youth room, then raise funds for the youth room. Use the mission funds for the youth room, and anyone who finds out about it will be quite justifiably ticked off. I know I would be.
If this is work for the Lord to help other people then why ask for pledges? god dosent cre where u worsip him as long as you do so the youth room is not of major importance. it would seem it isnt out of the good of your heart asking for pladges. just ask yourself what would Jesus do? hope this helped out.
If you have to ask, then you probably already know the answer, and just don’t like it.
I have a risk-free fundraiser opportunity if you’re interested. This could very easily help you build the youth account back up so you can get your room finished. I would be more than happy to help you with this every step of the way! I believe that working with our youth today is the answer for tomorrow! Keep up the great work! God bless!
