Planning a 3 week outdoor/city vacation on To Vancouver From Phoenix (California Oregon Washington Canada)?

Three friends and I are planning a 23 day trip from phoenix to Los Angeles and up the coast to Vancouver and back. We are all 21-23 and would like to have an epic outdoors/camping trip but also spend some time in the city. We are planning on going Mid July (2011) to Early August. Our plans are as follows:
Spend two days in the los angeles area. Then head up to Through Big Sur to San Francisco. Spend some time there then go to Napa/Sonoma (one or the other.. Which is better for a young ignorant red wine enthusiast?). Then spend some time camping in North Cali/Oregon Red Wood forest. Then Dunes National Park. Make our way up to Canon Beach/Eueka/Eugene/Portland. Spend some time in Olympic Penisula/Queets Rainforest/Seattle. Then to Vancouver and do some hiking/camping in our neighbors up north. After that, drive to south through idaho/utah to zion, do the water passage hike, then end with Las vegas before heading home.

This is our outline and we hopefully will be doing much more. Do you have any suggestions of specific sites along our path that we should check out? Thanks

Wow! Sounds like you have fantastic trip planned. Do you plan on camping in Big Sur? If so, some of best camping in Big Sur includes Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Limekiln State Park, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, Kirk Creek Campground and Plaskett Creek Campground. Nepenthe’s is a must for dinner or lunch and Deetjan’s is a great place for breakfast or brunch. You will also want to check out McWay Falls in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. I work at the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau so my job is to make sure you have a blast!
