red wolf in southern alabama….found a pack and have q’s about paw prints etc etc?
Byi travel around far into the woods surrounding where i live in south alabama. i camp out a lot and love learning about the herbs and wildlife. recently idiscovereddcaninee tracks, so as usual i looked into it and found out they were the exact tracks of a wolf. ive seenreddishh browncaniness that i thought werecotess. i had only seen them from afar, but afterdiscoveringg the wolf tracks i realized the dogs i saw were wayhairierr and notcotess. anywho, the prints have quite larger front paws than back it seems. idon’tt know whats up with that. i want a referal to a good Red Wolf site if their are any known. thanks.

Wow- if you did see red wolves, you’re really lucky! They are extinct in the wild, and only live in zoos and in sanctuaries in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Here’s a couple of red wolf sites:

Go to the IUCN SSC. These guys specialise in wild canids from around the world. They can put you in contact with red wolf researchers. http://www.canids.org
They also have a wolf group there, follow the links.
Red wolves have been reintroduced to the wild and according to these guys their numbers are increasing.
